2025 Annual Report

Update 3/16/2023

The Annual Business Meeting was a great time for the church to recap the past fiscal year and to look forward to 2023-2024. Pastor Bob & Pastor Dave spoke about our plans to continue to be firmly planted, growing together, and investing in the lives of others. Larry Blakeman shared about the budget and new World Partners. We had a good time celebrating what God has done and expectant of the future of our church.

We did have quorum and voted unanimously to pass the proposed budget for 2023-2024.

Also, a motion carried unanimously for additional funding that was requested for 2022-2023. 

Hock Ng presented from the Elder Nominating Committee five new candidates: 

  • Jeff Callender (2nd term – 3 years)
  • Chris Dowden (1st term – 3 years)
  • Andrew Strain (1st term – 3 years)
  • Jan Torgrimsen (2nd term – 3 years)
  • Paul Wilford (Unexpired 1 year term – 1 year)

All gentlemen were approved.

Doug Hulin, Elder Vice-Chair, thanked our outgoing elders, Paul Achenbach and Hock Ng, for their investment, dedication, and leadership in so many areas. 

Pray for your involvement in MBC’s Vision based on Psalm 1:1-3.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. Members will be emailed instructions on how to login to the ABM portal. This is the same web portal we used last year. You’ll need your username and password. There is a “forgot password” feature, in case you forgot.

We encourage all members to login prior to the meeting so that you can watch Pastor Bob’s pre-meeting instructions video as well as familiarize yourself with the Annual Business Meeting portal.

Most importantly, your participation is essential to this meeting’s success. According to our constitution, first we need 20% of active voting members to attend the meeting to constitute a quorum. Second, of those attending, we need a simple majority vote to both approve the annual operating budget and to elect members to the Board of Elders. Please make every effort to attend and vote.

The Center will be compiling the votes in order to preserve anonymity.

She has been a devoted member of MBC for over 30 years and has faithfully co-led Women’s Tuesday Night Bible Study for 25 years and continues to serve in that role. We Need a King after God’s Heart: An Expositional study of the life of David from 1 & 2 Samuel

The books of 1 and 2 Samuel are a historic account of how a loose confederacy of tribes comes together under the banner of a united monarchy through the covenant of God. A shepherd boy is anointed king. A taunting giant falls to the ground in defeat. This is a story of hard-fought battles and gut-wrenching political betrayals. The Bible pulls no punches as it displays leaders who accomplish great feats for the armies of God, but who also usurp power, fall into adultery and even commit suicide. This book draws on a number of major themes from the lives of Samuel, Saul and David, using them as examples for us, both positive and negative. Proverbs: The Way of Wisdom, a 31 – Day Daily Devotional

Meaning in the Madness: An Expositional study of the Book of Ecclesiastes

Meet the Authors

Bob is the Lead Pastor for Preaching, Family Life and Mission at Millington Baptist Church in Basking Ridge, NJ and has 20+ years of experience in youth and family ministry, apologetics and executive leadership. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree (English Lit and Theatre) from Eastern University (St. David’s, PA). He went on to earn a Master of Divinity Degree from Denver Seminary (Littleton, CO), where he studied under Dr. Craig Blomberg and Dr. Doug Groothuis. Additionally, he completed a Fellowship through the Colson Center for Christian Worldview and is a Level 1 Certified Biblical Counselor through the Association of Biblical Counselors. His ministry and research interests include marriage and family, apologetics, worldview, culture, ethics and missions as he provides directional leadership for the Underground Sessions ministry at MBC.

Bob is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree in ethics at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and has co-authored three books: A Beautiful Mess, Proverbs: The Way of Wisdom and We Need a King After God’s Heart.

Bob married his beautiful wife, Amanda, in 2014. They have three children: Jenna, Josiah and Zoe. There is nothing more important to him than serving the Lord by loving his wife and raising his children to love and pursue Jesus.

David Hentschel is blessed to serve as the Lead Pastor of Preaching, Spiritual Formation and Care at Millington Baptist Church in Basking Ridge, NJ. Prior to this ministry assignment, he has enjoyed pastoring in other churches in New Jersey and Texas for over 20 years. His background in public speaking and business helps tremendously with leadership and strategic planning and is thrilled to teach the word of God to the people of God for the glory of God. He oversees our Discipleship programs (Small Groups, Adult education, Women’s Ministries, Men’s ministries), as well as our Care ministries (Care Leadership Team, Stephen Ministries, GriefShare).

David Hentschel holds an A.B.S. and a B.S. in Biblical Studies from Cairn University and a Th.M. in Bible Exposition and Pastoral Ministries from Dallas Theological Seminary. His areas of interest are in Historical and Theological studies.

He and his wife Juli enjoy three daughters and a son-in-law. Some of his favorite activities include reading, spending time with his family and playing basketball.

Christianity is increasingly viewed as hateful and harmful. Is Christianity good or bad for the world? After 2,000 years, we have ample evidence to render a verdict. Jesus, the revolutionary, launched the largest movement in human history and changed the world. While the existential question asks whether God exists, the axiological question asks what value-impact God’s existence has on the world. In this exploration, we identify and assess evidence of widely embraced goods and values from rationality and the rise of universities and science to morality and the rise of compassion and charity that are deemed good for the world and then argue that Christianity enjoys explanatory scope and power for their existence and proliferation.

Walk Thru The Bible

Teaching the big picture of the Old Testament

Many believers are confused about the Old Testament–what it says, what it means, how to apply it to daily life. Some may wonder if it is even relevant today. Others are overwhelmed by it and don’t know how to read it. Would-be Bible readers often quit before they make it all the way through the Old Testament.

What if there was an event that could actually inspire people to read the Bible? What if there was an event that made the Old Testament come alive in a fun, clear, and very memorable way?

Join MBC on Saturday, January 31 from 9am to 12pm for this fun, interactive event that will teach the big picture of the Old Testament. Attendees will learn the major events and people of the Old Testament and understand its storyline, maybe for the first time.
 
  • WHAT? A high-energy, interactive seminar that walks through Genesis to Malachi in a few hours.
  • WHEN? Saturday, January 31 from 9am to 12noon in the church sanctuary
  • WHO? This family-friendly event is designed for adults and children (kindergarten and up). 
  • COST? $25 Per workbook, but please register all attendees. 
    • Childcare is available for up to Pre-K for $10 per family

Meet Our Instructor: Mark Schaaf

We’re excited to welcome one of our own, Mark Schaaf, as the instructor for Walk Thru the Bible’s otLIVE experience. Many of you know Mark and his wife Kathy—we’ve been supporting the Schaafs since the mid-1990s, when they first headed overseas with WorldVenture.

Mark and Kathy spent 13 years in Jordan, where Mark helped introduce and lead Walk Thru the Bible’s Arabic-language ministry across the Middle East and North Africa. After handing that work off to national leaders, they moved to South Africa, where Mark served as Walk Thru the Bible’s Southern Africa Regional Trainer and also helped plant a church in an informal settlement outside Johannesburg.

Mark holds a PhD in Biblical Archaeology from the University of South Africa, but what really excites him is helping people step into God’s grand story—whether that means turning a church sanctuary into a walk-through map of the Holy Land or leading study tours in the Bible lands themselves. He continues to travel extensively in Israel and Jordan, and five of the Schaafs’ six grandchildren now live in Israel.

Currently based in Atlanta, Georgia, we’re grateful to continue partnering with the Schaafs in their global mission of equipping, training, and coaching national leaders. We’re thrilled to have Mark with us for this otLIVE event!
