Lord’s Table | We practice two ordinances at MBC: Baptism and the Lord’s Table. By participating in these ordinances, Christians proclaim both their individual faith in Christ and our whole congregation proclaims our unity in the Gospel. MBC believes that the Lord’s Supper (Communion) is a commemoration of the Savior’s death, and, through participating, we “proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” MBC Articles of Faith, Article XI – To prepare our hearts for the Lord’s Supper we must understand that we are practicing these four things when we come to His table:
We Worship
This ordinance is part of corporate worship, normally on the first Sunday of each month. This is why the Lord’s Table is for believers only. It is an act of the gathered family, the church. Unbelievers may be present, indeed, we welcome them to be present as there is nothing secretive about the Lord’s Supper, it is done in public, but it is the family meal for those who have already professed their faith in Jesus Christ and have come to worship.
We Remember
Human beings are prone to forgetfulness. This is especially true spiritually. Therefore, the mental action of all the participants of the Lord’s Supper is to focus our minds on Jesus, especially remembering his sacrificial and historical work of dying on the cross for our sins. 1 Corinthians 11:24-25 says “Do this in remembrance of me.” At the table we remember.
We Give Thanks
The word “Eucharist” in 1 Corinthians 11:24 means to “give thanks.” We are filled with gratitude at the table because Jesus paid our sin debt and provided for us in abundance all that we need.
We Practice Self-Examination
The Scripture says a person “ought to examine themselves before he or she eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on themselves. (1 Corinthians 11:28-29) It’s important that we come to the table with a clear conscience before God. We come and confess our sins and renew our covenant commitment before God.

Seminars
Several times a year we offer seminars for MBC families and those in our community. We run these events to equip families to navigate the difficult cultural terrain we are living in. Here are examples of past seminar topics:
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Begin Your Journey Here | The Gospel of Jesus Christ is Good News! But first, there is some bad news. The Bible tells the whole story of humanity in four parts:
Creation
The first book in the Bible is Genesis, and it says that God created the world and it was good (Gen 1:31). There He created a man and a woman and placed them in a garden called Eden. They were to be fruitful and multiply and to partner with God in caring for this world, and the presence of the glory of God was there with them … until sin came into the world.
Fall
The tragedy of the Bible is called the Fall, that moment when mankind rebelled against God and His right to govern and rule over their lives. Since this moment, all of creation has fallen into sin. Sin is disobeying God and his commandments, rebelling against God, and falling short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). And mankind is desperate and groaning for things to go back to the way they were supposed to be and awaits its promised liberation from bondage (Romans 8:19), until the promised redeemer would come…
Redemption
In the fullness of time, God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to live the life we should have lived which was a perfect sinless life and to die the death we deserved. He died as a substitute on the cross for our sins, was buried, and then rose victoriously over the grave. He then gave his followers a commission to proclaim this Gospel (good news). The message of the Gospel is the message of God’s grace, mercy and the forgiveness of sins for all who believe.
Restoration
But this is not the end of the story… The testimony of the Bible is that God has every intention of renewing and restoring this world to a glory surpassing what it had at first. (Eph 3:20-21; Haggai 2:9) Jesus taught his disciples about the coming “renewal of all things.” (Matt 19:28). Our final destination is a renewed and restored world with resurrected bodies living with God who dwells among His people (Rev 21-22). This is why the good news is so good. We find that to be very exciting!
So what do you do now?
Our response to the Gospel is to place our faith in Christ. Are you ready to trust Him? If you have recently made a decision to begin a relationship with Jesus, how wonderful! This means two things: First, Jesus has become your savior. Second, you have become a child of God. We call this Salvation. Becoming a follower of Jesus is the most important decision you can make in your life. Know how excited we are for you!

Pray
Our God answers prayer. Spend time with God every day talking with Him and listening to what He has to say to you through His Word and through His Spirit. If you would like other members of our Church Body to pray with you or rejoice with you over answered prayer, you may submit a request at MBC prayer.
Read your Bible
Reading God’s word is the single greatest thing you can do to grow your relationship with God. Here are some recommendations:

Rev. David Hentschel has been blessed to serve as the Lead Pastor of Preaching, Spiritual Formation and Care at Millington Baptist Church in Basking Ridge, NJ. Prior to this ministry assignment, he has enjoyed pastoring in other churches in New Jersey and Texas for the past 20 years. His background in public speaking and business helps tremendously with leadership and strategic planning and he is thrilled to have the opportunity to pastor and teach the scriptures in the local church setting. Pastor Dave holds an A.B.S. and a B.S. in Biblical Studies from Cairn University and a Th.M. in Bible Exposition and Pastoral Ministries from Dallas Theological Seminary. He is married to his wife Juli, and they enjoy three wonderful daughters and one awesome son in law. Some of his favorite activities include reading, spending time with his family and playing basketball.
Rev. Bob Erbig is the Lead Pastor for Preaching, Family Life and Mission at Millington Baptist Church in Basking Ridge, NJ and has 20+ years of experience in youth and family ministry, apologetics and executive leadership. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Denver Seminary (Littleton, CO), where he studied under Dr. Craig Blomberg and Dr. Doug Groothuis. Additionally, he completed a Fellowship through the Colson Center for Christian Worldview and is a Level 1 Certified Biblical Counselor through the Association of Biblical Counselors. His ministry and research interests include apologetics, worldview, culture and ethics as he provides directional leadership for the Underground Sessions ministry at MBC. Bob is married to Amanda and they are blessed to three children: Jenna, Josiah, and Zoe.
Rev. Bob Erbig has served Millington Baptist church for 11 years and is currently the Lead Pastor for Preaching, Family Life and Mission. Bob’s role allows him to combine his passion for proclaiming God’s Word, building strong families, and empowering followers of Christ to influence the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Bob runs the Underground Sessions ministry, which focuses on current cultural topics from a Christian Worldview. Bob holds a B.A. from Eastern University in English Literature and Theatre and a M.Div. from Denver Seminary with a focus in Youth and Family Ministries. He has served churches in New Jersey and Colorado in pastoral ministry for the last 20 years. Bob is married to Amanda and together they enjoy two daughters and a son. Bob loves traveling, reading, playing sports, and catching the latest Marvel movie.

What is a Shared Interest Group?
Shared Interest Groups are groups formed around a common goal and are generally informal in nature.
What is a Shared Interest Group’s purpose?
Groups are intended to help people to build relationships with each other in a gospel-centered way apart from the Sunday morning worship experience. Groups are created to help people engage with others, both within and outside of the church, in cultural, artistic, recreational, leisure and sports activities.
Who should consider joining a Shared Interest Group?
Individuals, small groups, teams or whole communities can join a Shared Interest Group. They are relevant to people of all different ages, abilities and levels of skill…in other words, there’s something for everyone!
Shared Interest Groups are fun, interactive, and designed as great way to get to know others. Participation serves as a valuable supplement toward building biblical community.

We are privileged to love one another. It is in this spirit that we have formed the Care Leadership Team (CLT). The goal of the CLT is to learn the needs of our congregation and coordinate assistance. To do this, we will draw upon the natural strengths of our church family to develop a network of caregivers. As a caregiver, people will have the option to serve when a need arises.

Follow-up Team
Follow up with first-time visitors who have filled out connection cards on Sunday morning. The Team gives each visitor a personal call and email to thank them for coming and see if they had any questions about their visit.
Sunday Morning Coffee & Cafe
Encourage the informal gathering of our people in Fellowship Hall between the services on Sunday mornings by having coffee and donated goodies available.
Ushers and Greeters, 9am & 10:45am Services
If you are great with people and enjoy meeting and making others feel welcome, consider serving on the Welcome Team. Team members are the first contact our guests have with the people of MBC and, in some cases, the church as a whole. Members of this team serve either as greeters or ushers. Greeters are stationed at the entrances and ensure that all guests are extended a warm welcome to MBC. Ushers direct guests and engage newcomers in welcoming conversation. This team is the instrumental first step in presenting Christ, His church and His people in a positive and enriching way to everyone in attendance on Sunday.
Parking Team
Help in the parking lot to move traffic through and to more effectively manage our available space.
Connection
Shuttle Drivers
This team drives the church’s bus shuttle between the church and the Dewy Meadow Plaza overflow parking lot on Sunday mornings, on a rotating schedule.

Stephen Ministers work alongside pastors to care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support for people going through difficult times such as divorce, grief, hospitalization, unemployment, terminal illness, relocation, chronic illness, or loneliness.

Women’s Ministries
Women’s Ministries provide opportunities for women from MBC and the surrounding community to connect, grow in their faith, discover ways to partner in ministry, and give back to others. Are you looking for a place to connect with other women while discovering God’s Word together? Women’s Bible studies meet on Tuesday mornings at 10am in the Youth & Family Ministry building, and Tuesday evenings at 7pm via Zoom. There are also several other ongoing studies. Senior Ministry
Provides fellowship and support for the senior members of MBC as well as an avenue of outreach to their friends and neighbors. Seniors gather on the third Friday (October through June) for lunch, followed by a program of interest, enrichment, enjoyment, and outreach. One or two special events are held during the year.

Sunday Morning The Rush Hour
Junior High and Senior High young people meet at 9:00am on Sunday mornings, deepening their understanding and commitment to the truths of God’s Word for their lives.

Photography & Video: Photography and video are vital and growing elements here at MBC. We utilize these forms within the services as well as various media outlets to tell the emerging story of MBC’s Christ centered community. Currently, photographers and videographers capture a variety of MBC events and tell these stories in various print and digital social media outlets. If you have experience in photography, film editing, and/or producing, we would love for you to join our efforts.
Social Media: Interested in social media? Can’t stop tweeting? In our ever-connecting world, it is vital we use all means possible to communicate the grace of the Gospel and the narrative of our growing community.
Little Footprints Learning Center is looking for an assistant teacher for our 2 1/2 -3 year old class that meets on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings starting in April 2022. The hours are from 8:30-12:30. If you love Jesus and children, then this just might be the job for you. Join us and see how much fun working for Jesus can be!!

Next Membership Class is June 1 @ 6:30pm
Unlike a social-club membership, where the organization exists to serve the members, church membership is more akin to being in a family, or sports team. Membership at MBC exists as a united group of believers who are counted on in an attempt to fulfill a common purpose of becoming a provider of God’s love and care to others. We are a church not for ourselves, but for others. Members commit to joining a spiritual family that provides encouragement and support to one another. We are called to a higher degree of responsibility, service and sacrifice. Our elders and leaders pledge to assist our members with care, counsel, prayer and teaching.
Is Church Membership Biblical?
We hope that, as the Lord leads, you make a covenant to be part of our church family.
If you are interested in becoming a member please read through our four-step process below.
We want you to make an informed decision about joining our church. We periodically offer a Membership class that explains our values and beliefs and discusses the next steps to joining MBC. All prospective members are invited to attend our Membership class. This is where you will learn about the history and vision of MBC, acquaint yourself with its ministries and opportunities, and dialogue with elders and other congregants on questions you may have about the church or Christian community. The curriculum is composed of one 3-hour class in which we cover: Articles of Faith & Doctrinal Positions, Church Covenant, Vision & Mission Life.
Upon completion, those who attended are able but not obligated to sign up for a membership interview, the second step of the membership process.

For many, baptism is the first public step of obedience to Christ. If you have not been baptized following salvation, we ask you to take this step before becoming a Member.
