Welcome to the Underground
Welcome to the online web portal for our virtual Underground Sessions event, “ENTER EVENT NAME”
If you are new with us, Underground Sessions is a live forum we hold several times a year where we discuss challenging and relevant issues in our world today. We do this with a spirit of grace and compassion while maintaining biblical faithfulness. Our events feature culturally relevant interviews with guest professionals specializing within the topic of discussion. Our chosen topics are often controversial. As such, we expect there will be aspects of disagreement. This is a good thing, as we hope we learn to disagree well. As you explore this web portal, we invite you to step into the tension as we create a space where respectful dialogue can happen, difficult topics addressed, and ultimately where Christ is exalted.

The Contend Conference
Something is happening in our world … can you feel it? Do you see it? It’s not surprising if you don’t. The change is slow, almost unnoticeable. Like a swimmer floating in the ocean, the waves can carry you far from shore. It doesn’t feel like you’ve moved until you open your eyes and look.
Culturally speaking, this “drift” has been happening for a long time. However, recent events have caused people to open their eyes and see how far the waves have taken us. What was once considered truth is now questioned. People we work with, go to school with, and live near have no understanding of the Gospel and the truths of the Bible. Their view of Jesus is skewed. These assumptions have made their way into the church. Leaders and institutions we once trusted … have drifted. RESIST THE DRIFT
For God’s Glory,
Pastor Bob Erbig
Biography: Bob serves as Lead Pastor: Preaching, Family Life and Missions at Millington Baptist Church in Basking Ridge, NJ. He is a graduate of Eastern University and Denver Seminary. He and his wife Amanda enjoy three children, two daughters and a son.
Progressive Christianity
Progressive Christianity
Alisa Childers: In this talk, Alisa will walk the audience through the history, key beliefs, and key figures of the movement of progressive Christianity, and ultimately show how progressive Christianity is at odds with historic Christianity and even disagrees with Jesus on what the Bible is, what Jesus accomplished on the cross, and the definition of the gospel.
Biography: Alisa Childers is a wife, mom, author, and speaker. She was a member of the award-winning CCM recording group ZOEgirl. She is a popular speaker at apologetics and Christian worldview conferences. She is the author of Another Gospel? and Live Your Truth and Other Lies. She has been published at the Gospel Coalition, Crosswalk, the Stream, For Every Mom, Decision Magazine, and the Christian Post.
Parenting & Social Media
Parenting & Social Media
Jason Thacker Social media is a tool that can be used for both good and ill, but also is profoundly shaping every aspect of our hearts, minds, and souls. Recognizing this reality is one of the key steps in raising up the next generation in the pursuit of wisdom and virtue. We need more than simple tips and tricks on how to use technology better as we recognize that these tools have become one of the primary ways that we are being discipled today and transformed by the patterns of this world. Learn how to think deeply about the nature of these tools that never leave our side and how we might practically equip the next generation to wisely engage them as they seek to follow Jesus in a digital age.
Biography: Paul is an Associate Professor of Philosophy of Religion and director of the M.A. Philosophy of Religion program at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Gould earned his doctorate in philosophy from Purdue University. He is the author or editor of ten scholarly and popular-level books including Cultural Apologetics, Philosophy: A Christian Introduction, and The Story of the Cosmos. He has been a visiting scholar at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School’s Henry Center.
"Live Your Truth"
“Live Your Truth”
Alisa Childers Popular slogans like “live your truth,” “follow your heart,” “you are enough” “you are the boss of you” and “you’re perfect just as you are” flood our social media feeds. In many cases, even materials marketed as “Christian” promote these ideas. But are they biblical? In this talk, Alisa will walk the audience through 3-5 cultural lies, demonstrate the bad thinking underneath them, and then turn to the Bible for a much better story.
Critical Theory & Social Justice Ideology
Critical Theory & Social Justice Ideology
Neil Shenvi Critical theory and its expression in fields such as critical race theory, critical pedagogy, and queer thery are having a profound impact on our culture. Contemporary critical theory’s ideas about race, class, gender, identity, and justice have dramatically shaped how people think, act, and view one another—in Christian and secular spheres alike.
Biography: Neil Shenvi is an apologist, author and follower of Jesus Christ. He has written two books: Why Believe? and Critical Dilemma. Neil has an A.B. in chemistry from Princeton and a PhD in theoretical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked as a research scientist at Yale University and Duke University and has published over thirty peer-reviewed scientific papers. In addition, his writings on critical theory have been published by the Journal of Christian Legal Thought, the Gospel Coalition, Eikon, Ratio Christi, and the Liberty University Law Review, among others. He is married and currently homeschools his four children.

Gospel Message
Resisting The Drift for Teens
Is It Worth It?
Johnny Graves
In this powerful talk, Johnny Graves challenges both teens and their parents to consider the question: Is it worth it? As young people face increasing pressure to conform to culture, following Jesus requires courage and conviction. Anchored in Daniel 6, Johnny unpacks the story of Daniel’s unwavering faith and what it means for teens navigating today’s world. Whether you’re a student striving to stand firm or a parent seeking to support your child’s faith, this message will inspire and equip you to pursue Christ no matter the cost.
Resisting the Drift in our Spiritual Lives
Am I Drifting Spiritually?
Dave Hentschel
In this insightful talk, Dave Hentschel addresses the reality of spiritual drift—how easily we can slowly slip away from a close walk with God without even realizing it. He unpacks the signs of drifting and offers practical ways to stay anchored in our faith. Whether you feel stagnant in your spiritual life or simply want to stay intentional in your walk with Christ, this message will encourage and equip you to remain steadfast.
Gospel Message

Resisting The Drift for Teens: Breakout
Street Level Guide to Morality
Street Level Guide to Morality
Steve DiSebastian
This session focused on understanding the difference between a calling and your divinely designed purpose. Once we get this paradigm shift, it can change our life today and forever—as well as how we represent our faith to others.
Addressing The Realities of Sex Trafficking
Addressing the Realities of Sex Trafficking
Adrienne Livingston
The purpose of this session is to delve beneath the surface of our world and uncover the harsh realities of sex trafficking. By its very nature, sex trafficking is deceptive, often hiding in plain sight. Three key factors contribute to this problem:
Perpetrators Disguise Themselves: Those who commit these crimes often appear as “wolves in sheep’s clothing,” making it difficult to identify them.
Consumers’ Blindness: Driven by lust, consumers are often unable to recognize their role in trafficking, choosing to see only what they want to see.
The Myth of Choice: The misconception that the sex industry operates on choice and free will further obscures the truth.
In this session, we will explore God’s heart for justice, discuss ways to prevent sex trafficking, and consider how we can best respond to this grave issue.
The Gospel Across Cultural Boundaries
The Gospel Across Cultural Boundaries
Alfonse Javed:
Have you struggled to share your faith with someone of a different culture? Do you have friends who are Muslim or Hindu? This session will help us understand how the complexity of culture enables the gospel to spread powerfully within a culture. It will also explain why the Gospel message does not “jump” easily across cultural boundaries. At this end of this session, you will be able to articulate what culture is, how to understand it, and practices that facilitate the jump across barriers that have long obstructed the advance of the gospel among the least evangelized.
Resisting The Drift for Teens: Breakout
If You’re Not Driftin’ You’re Drivin’
Andy Imbimbo:
In a culture sprinting away from the Gospel, teens are bombarded with conflicting messages about identity, truth, and purpose. “Resisting the Drift for Teens” is about anchoring your life in Jesus amidst all this chaos. This session will equip teens to recognize the culture’s pull, stand firm on the authority of Scripture, and experience how the supremacy of Christ transforms everything. Teens will discover how to live boldly for Jesus, even when the world says you’re missing out..

Monique spent 2 decades advocating for Critical Race Theory (CRT), but through a series of events began to see the contradictions of CRT with the historic Christian worldview. Monique’s vision is to promote a vision for racial healing based on the historic Christian worldview.
Monique has a BA in Sociology from Biola University. She is working on a MA in Theology from Talbot School of Theology.

Welcome
The Contend Conferance
Greetings Contenders,
In recent years, Christians are encountering a hostile cultural climate. Our faith, once the bedrock of society, has lost respect. People are not indifferent towards Christians—they are indignant, both as a people and the beliefs we hold. Attacks have come even from within our ranks. And yet, the New Testament letter of Jude exhorts us to CONTEND for this Christian faith. What are we to do?
This event is part of our Underground Sessions ministry, which seeks to model and equip Christians to have conversations in tough areas, particularly politics and culture. The focus of this weekend was to equip believers in the area of APOLOGETICS, so they can respond with love, grace, and boldness to the challenges of the day. On Saturday evening, we put this into practice by hosting an Underground Sessions event answering the toughest questions of today’s culture. The word, “contend” is both a military and athletic term—it implies a struggle. Jude is exhorting his readers to preserve the faith. The purpose of this conference was just that—equipping followers of Christ to answer the tough questions, raise up a confident next generation, and engage the marketplace with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
When our time comes we must be prepared to respond. I hope these videos are both an encouragement and a challenge as we learn to CONTEND for the faith once and for all delivered to the saints.
BE PREPARED TO RESPOND
For God’s Glory,
Pastor Bob Erbig
About the Underground Sessions: If you are new with us, Underground Sessions is a live and online forum we hold several times a year where we discuss challenging and relevant issues in our world today.
Session ONE
Mama Bear Apologetics

TEASI CANNON (Keynote Speaker) The youngest and most vulnerable members of the Church are growing up in a society that is vastly different than the one in which many of us grew up. While unbiblical ideas aren’t new, their accessibility, volume, and frequency are. It’s been said we are navigating a battle of ideas, many of which strategically target the next generation of Christians, tossing them into an onslaught of animosity, skepticism, and sophisticated arguments that seek to demolish their faith. That’s where Mama Bears come in. And Papa Bears … and any Bears who love all our cubs and are willing to do what it takes to shore up our own faith so we can help them trust the authority of God’s Word, sort through the noise, and cling to the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Biography: Teasi is the author of Lord, Where’s My Calling, and contributor to Mama Bear Apologetics. She obtained her master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty Theological Seminary. She is a confessed book addict who can’t get enough of apologetics and theology, and when she’s not spending time with her family, you can find her sitting on her favorite spot of the couch with a book in one hand and a hot mug of coffee in the other.
Session TWO
Cultural Apologetics
Full Conference – Session 2
Short Talk | Keynote | Interview |
PAUL GOULD (Keynote Speaker) Christianity has an image problem. No one wants to hear what we have to say. All too often our lives are fragmented and unlovely. And we generally don’t see the world any different than anyone else. As a result we’ve lost the Christian voice, the Christian conscience, and the Christian imagination. The gospel is often viewed as unreasonable or undesirable or both. In our time together we’ll explore this question: Given this cultural moment, with all its challenges, how can the gospel get a fair hearing? To answer our question, we took a look at Paul’s encounter with the Greeks in Athens and then applied our insights to this day and this age.
Session THREE
Cultural Intelligence
Full Conference – Session
ShortTalk | Keynote | Interview |
DARRELL BOCK (Keynote Speaker) How do we have cultural intelligence in a culture that is so pluralistic and contentious? How we see the challenge will determine how we approach it. Our weekend gave a fresh biblical look at how we should see our engagement, especially with those who are not a part of the church. We have no theology of cultural engagement in the church and we need it. We hope to give you a way of approaching engagement that is biblical and practical by looking specifically at 6 core texts and also how to have difficult conversations.
Biography: Darrell is a Humboldt Scholar and an author of over 40 books, including well-regarded commentaries on Luke and Acts and studies of the historical Jesus, and works in cultural engagement as host of the seminary’s Table Podcasts. He was president of the Evangelical
Theological Society (ETS) from 2000 – 2001, served as a consulting editor for Christianity Today and serves on the boards of Wheaton College and Chosen People Ministries.
