From Ruin to Redemption
Sermon series on the Old Testament book of Isaiah
The Book of Isaiah tells the story of God’s redemptive plan for His people, who are led away from their destructive ways through a refining process in which they lose what they value most. This pattern—sin, followed by judgment, then restoration—becomes a recurring theme in Scripture, mirrored by the “servant of the Lord” who will relive Israel’s story and accomplish a redemptive work that brings about a new heavens and new earth. Isaiah teaches that, like the prophet himself, God’s people must confront their deepest fears to be purified, for God’s holiness both wounds and heals. This journey includes judgment and exile, but always preserves a remnant, a “holy seed,” as a sign of God’s faithfulness. Isaiah’s ministry unfolds across the reigns of four Judean kings—Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah—and profoundly influenced Jesus’ life and ministry. Through Isaiah, God reveals details of the suffering servant’s mission, prophesying redemption for the whole world. This book calls God’s people to live as His representatives, marked by righteousness, justice, and compassion for the vulnerable. In repentance and renewal, they are invited to help restore a creation that reflects Eden’s original peace and beauty.
